David Davis must have developed selective hearing. When Theresa May was Tory Chair she insisted that the Conservative Party image needed to be de toxified as “people see us as the Nasty Party”.
Friday saw Mr. Davis, already under pressure for refusing to attend a Church sponsored Hustings event, and reeling from a blunder which left the Tories without a candidate in a key Council by election, out campaigning in Cottingham.
The former Europe Minister and Tory Leadership Candidate front-runner spied Father Oliver Coss of St Mary’s in Cottingham strolling through the Market Place with his Rector. In front of astonished residents Mr. Davis launched into a stinging verbal attack on Father Coss accusing the self confessed Conservative voter of “pursuing a Liberal Agenda”.
Father Coss posted on Facebook about this amazing outburst only to be approached by a Tory Councillor who abruptly told Father Coss that he should “think carefully about his Facebook status”.
Father Coss demands, “an immediate apology from Mr. Davis after being poked, prodded and shouted at in a public environment”.
Labour’s Candidate Danny Marten, 23 said; “This is clear evidence that we need a fresh and mature approach to how politics is conducted. The public are sick of Punch and Judy politics. It also shows how badly rattled the Tories are if a senior Grandee is reduced to shouting at Vicars in public”.
