Labour Triumph in Haltemprice and Howden

Against a 9.5% national swing, Danny Marten and our Labour team achieved the unimaginable by producing a 2.7% gain in our share of the vote.

Let everyone be aware of just what we have done here in Haltemprice and Howden. Not only have we resisted and held up a swing of 9.5% but have added to our previous performance, so the equivalent that we have posted is the best part of a 12% swing to Labour in an election where the Party was under the cosh due to the disgraceful media bias, the love in with the Lib Dems and, it has to be said some self inflicted wounds.

We ran a slick, well managed but most importantly people orientated campaign.

Danny made the focus of our efforts to “Re Connect With The Voters”, and boy did we do that. From Facebook and Twitter producing thousands of hits, traditional media exposure to tramping the streets we delivered by speaking directly to thousands of people across the Constituency.

I am proud and pleased as punch by what we have done. Other CLP’s need to take this on board; you can’t ever beat listening and responding to voters face to face.

We have held the line discipline wise and there were times when I felt like blowing a gasket but overall the Labour Party have done really well despite the storm we had to endure from the Murdoch outlets. The Tories have no mandate, and if we can sort things out with the Lib Dems, and the Celtic parties we can carry on with a progressive agenda to protect the vulnerable and cut the deficit responsibly.
