East Riding of Yorkshire Labour Party candidates for the Tranby Ward, Josh Newlove and Daniel Palmer today signalled their intention to fight the Coalition Government’s proposed VAT rise which will see the tax soar to a record 20% in January, by launching their campaign for the May Local Elections on this crucial issue.
“Nick Clegg warned us during the General Election Campaign that the Tories VAT “Bombshell” as he called it, would cost hard working families £389 a year at a time when they are more hard pressed than ever due to the impact of the cuts”, said Mr. Newlove (18). “Now as Deputy Prime Minister he is imposing this drastic and regressive tax which will hit most families five times as hard as those on the top rate of income tax”.
Mr. Palmer (29) added; “We urge all those concerned local residents to join with us in opposing this unfair tax hike. Josh and I will be in Anlaby Square on Saturday between 11am and 2.30pm where we will be collecting signatures to a petition which demands that Nick Clegg and his Tory partners urgently reconsider the imposing of such a blatantly unfair measure on hard working people in our area”.
