Humberside Police Cuts: 331 Front Line Police Officers To Go

Labour4Tranby candidates Dan Palmer and Josh Newlove professed themselves “dismayed and disappointed” that Humberside Police has been forced to lose an eye watering 331 Police Officers over the next two years due to the savage cuts announced by the Lib Dem backed Tory Government.

Mr. Newlove (19) said, “Each of these job loses is the story of an officer who has dedicated their life to protecting the public, often in dangerous situations, being told they are no longer wanted. How must the Police Service as whole feel that the message coming from Tory Home Secretary Theresa May is effectively, “Thanks for putting yourself in danger for the good of the community, but here’s the way to the dole office.” The people of Anlaby deserve an explanation and we will be seeking one from the Police Authority.”

Mr. Palmer (29) said he was “perplexed” by the structure of the cuts which see 17% of front line Police Officers losing their jobs whilst the so called “Back Office cuts” so beloved by the Coalition will see only 5% of staff posts lost.

“The Tories promised at the General Election that they would protect front line services. Whilst we value each member of staff that works for the Police the Labour Party can’t fathom what reasons lie behind the loading of job loses directly onto police officers. I want to be clear that we want to protect every type of job within the Police Service surely protecting the public day to day must be a priority?”

Mr. Newlove concluded by saying that he worries that these Lib Dem backed Tory cuts can only mean one thing and that will be; “a significant rise in crime and fear of crime. Labour put record police numbers on the streets and crime fell year on year during our period in Government. Nick Clegg and his Tory friends are out to wreck this achievement pure and simple.”
