The NHS in Hull and East Yorkshire faces being thrown back into intensive care by the policies of this Coalition Government.
Once again this City bears the brunt when things go wrong. What is happening right here right now, is a microcosm of what is to come across the nation as the Tories axe comes smashing through the NHS.
This is the worst crisis facing the City in our recent history.
A monumental £94 million must be cut from Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust budget by the end of this Parliament, starting with £27 million of cuts this year alone. This despite Cameron parroting that there will be an extra £11 billion for the NHS nationally by 2015.
300 beds are shutting here. 10 wards are to close. ALL specialist Neurology beds are being axed and worst of all the world class Cardiac unit is shutting.
This has prompted 17 cardiologists and 7 neurologists to write to our local MP’s. The language used is unprecedented. Prof. John Cleland is quoted as saying that NICE have called what is happening “dangerous”. I can provide you with the details as we move forward.
The Labour Party is the only group that can come to the rescue of the NHS because it is our greatest achievement.
The anger in the City is palpable. The local media have been featuring this issue as a top story, and hundreds came to the Rally on Saturday.
Karl Turner, John Prescott and Alan Johnson came to the Rally and Diana Johnson sent us a statement.
But that is not enough.
We need the Labour Front Bench to come here and support us. ITV have pulled out of Hull, Sky News and the national media ignore us as we an hour each way from the nearest city.
The top players in the Party need to show that they recognise the disaster unfolding here. They need to bring this to the attention of the rest of the country as what is happening here will be played out across the nation if we don’t stop it now.
The Leadership need to show that they “get it”, and they are on the side of the community.
The timing of the Trust’s announcement is not an accident. They know very well that the shutdown of Parliament and the exodus from Westminster is their ally in closing down a debate and scrutiny of their actions.
I am begging for leadership, for action, for help. We can’t do this on our own despite the heroic efforts of local people.
We must not look back and say that we wished we had done more.
Please get in touch.
