“We Oppose These Politically Movtivated Tory Cuts”: Motion Passed by Central Branch Labour Party Haltemprice and Howden

“Central Branch Haltemprice and Howden Labour Party deplore the imposition of £100 million of cuts to the budget of Hull City Council by Central Government. This directly impacts on the residents of our Wards as many are reliant on services provided by HCC either directly as employees, or via relatives and friends. We are particularly concerned about the disproportionate cuts faced by Children’s services which face a 33% reduction resulting in 300 job losses so far, with a possible further 90 posts to be axed. We call upon the Labour Group to actively oppose all cuts to services and to campaign to secure a £100 million rebate to defend existing services. In addition we call upon the next Labour Government to restore any cuts, indexed linked against inflation, and to embark on a structured investment in Council services, especially housing, funded via fair taxes including recouping of £120 billion in unpaid tax* (Source PCS commissioned report into tax evasion April 2012)
